Ryanair has said it will not reverse its decision to cut the commission it pays to travel agents, even if agents boycott the airline.
The board of the 400 strong Irish Travel Agents' Association (ITAA) meets today to decide its response to the cut in commission from 9 to 7.5 per cent.
A proposal that travel agents boycott Ryanair sales was put to ITAA members last week, and a ballot on the issue is to be completed today. It is expected to result in a large majority in [favour of a boycott.
Ryanair's commercial director, Mr Tim Jeans, said yesterday that whatever the outcome of the ballot the airline would not change its decision. He said travel agents' commission from Ryanair sales had increased from £700,000 in 1991 to a projected £3.5 million this year, even allowing for the planned reduction.
