Ronaldo honoured yet again

Brazil and Real Madrid striker Ronaldo has today been named as the 2002 FIFA World Player of the Year.

Ronaldo, who was named European Player of the Year earlier in the week, becomes the first player to win the award three times, having previously won in 1996 and 1997.

He won 59 first place votes from the 148 national team coaches who voted, totalling 357 points.

Germany and Bayern Munich goalkeeper Oliver Kahn was second with 16 first place votes and a total of 171 points.

France and Real Madrid's Zinedine Zidane, the 1998 and 2000 winner, came third with 18 first place votes but polled less well in the lesser placings to finish with 148 votes.
