Bobby Robson is confident Craig Bellamy will commit his long-term future to Newcastle United "any day now".

Bellamy and his representatives are still to agree the terms of an improved deal which would see the Wales striker stay on Tyneside beyond 2005, but Robson does not expect any complications.

"He's already on a good contract now. He jumped at the chance to sign it last summer, so it can't be that bad."

Bellamy scored the goal which clinched Newcastle's place in the second group stage of the Champions League and Robson is convinced that his £6 million signing will stay put.

"I just think that when Craig takes a look around at the young players we have here and the potential within the squad he must realise he's in the right place at the right time."
