Former president of Ireland and UN Human Rights Commissioner Mary Robinson today described the Israeli blockade of Gaza as ‘inhumane’.

She said half of the enclave’s population were children under the age of 18.

”They cannot get school books, they cannot get normal activities. The humanitarian aid is paid for by the EU and a limited amount of it is let in by Israel so nobody dies of starvation,” she said. “It is completely inhumane,” she said.

"It is totally counterproductive because it is undermining the credibility of Israel. We want Israel to be a credible state, peacefully side by side with a credible Palestinian state,” Mrs Robinson told RTÉ Radio.
