The need for more mixed religion housing developments in Northern Ireland will be tackled by a new strategy, Social Development minister Margaret Ritchie pledged today.

The SDLP MLA said cross-community projects would be a key part of a new plan to be outlined to the Assembly tomorrow.

The minister hailed the success of the province's first mixed housing new-build at Carren Crescent in Enniskillen and confirmed that plans for nine similar developments in the north were progressing well.

"I am concerned with the level of segregation, particularly within the social housing sector and I am most anxious that we move from that level of segregation to see a position where there is greater integration," she said.
