A £2.5 m rescue package for the Irish shellfish industry was officially launched in Bantry, Co Cork, yesterday by the Minister of State for the Marine and Natural Resources, Mr Hugh Byrne, writes Dick Hogan.

The rescue package is aimed in particular at the farmed mussel sector following the prolonged closure of many shellfish production areas around the coast last year.
