HELSINKI - Exceptionally heavy snowfalls in Lapland have brought some reindeer herds to the brink of starvation, Finnish experts said yesterday.
Calves have starved to death as exceptional fluctuations in temperature have covered the lichen they normally eat under an almost impenetrable layer of snow and ice.
