Northern Ireland's politicians were challenged today to spell out what they will do to amend the new rates legislation that comes into force next April.
The call was made by the Northern Ireland Fair Rates Campaign as a petition of 3,500 signatures was handed in at Stormont to Finance Minister David Hanson objecting to the new system.
Anne Monaghan, chair of the protest group, said it would continue to collect signatures in opposition to the legislation.
All political parties say they are against the new system , but Mr Hanson has said very few of them have actually written to him to register opposition.
Ms Monaghan said: "It is not enough to object, we want our MPs to state what they are going to do through the parliamentary process to address this.
"I also want to make clear that the minister still has the opportunity to extend the consultation period for five more weeks as recommended by Tony Blair in 2004 and as recommended by the cabinet office."
The SDLP is to hand in its submission to the Government's consultation on the rating changes to Mr Hanson tomorrow.
South Belfast MP, Dr Alasdair McDonnell branded Government plans as unfair. He said the Assembly had voted to review the previous antiquated system of rental valuation in favour of capital valuation.
