An inquest into the death of murdered teenager Raonaid Murray in south Dublin seven years ago has been adjourned for a year as Garda inquiries into her death are still ongoing.
Dublin County Coroner Dr Kieran Geraghty, sitting in Tallaght, yesterday adjourned the inquest until September 4th, 2007, which will mark the eighth anniversary of Ms Murray's death.
Det Insp Eamon O'Reilly from Dun Laoghaire station yesterday requested the adjournment. "The Garda criminal investigation is still ongoing into the circumstances of the death of Raonaid Murray. Under the circumstances, we are looking for an adjournment of one year," he told the court.
Dr Geraghty said: "I'm granting an adjournment until September 4th, 2007. I'd like to again extend my sympathies to the family of Raonaid Murray," he told the court.
To mark the seventh anniversary of Ms Murray's death on Monday, gardaí renewed their appeal for information. The 17-year-old died after she was stabbed in the side, chest and shoulder in an attack near her home at Silchester Park, Glenageary, just before midnight on September 3rd, 1999.
She had just left Scott's pub in Dún Laoghaire after a night out. Her body was found about 20 minutes later by her older sister, Sarah, where she had collapsed 450 metres from their house.
