Brendan Cauldwell and Anne-Marie Horan join poet Gerry McDonnell to read excerpts from his work Mud Island Elegy in The Quiet Corner (Lyric fm, 10.30 a.m., Monday to Friday). The poems recall the forgotten characters and unique history of Mud Island in the Fairview/Ballybough area where Jews, unable to purchase land within the city, were forced to lease land outside the municipal boundary for a graveyard.

THE Book on One (RTE Radio 1, 2.45 p.m., Monday to Friday) celebrates the 70th birthday of the Cork raconteur, comedian and actor Niall Toibin with readings by the author from his memoir Smile and be a Villian.

IN BBC Radio 4's Book of the Week John Walsh recalls his whole life as a grand commute between two cultures: Irish parents, London home; Irish relations, English . . . These culture clashes - mainly comic - are caught in his newly-published memoir The Falling Angels, which will be broadcast across the week at 9.45 a.m.
