Warsaw - Poland's centreright Solidarity bloc, about to head a new coalition cabinet, yesterday condemned remarks by a prominent pro-Solidarity priest who said Jews should have no place in the government.

Father Henryk Jankowski was quoted as saying in a sermon on Sunday that he agreed with views that "the Jewish minority should not be accepted in our government". Solidarity Election Action spokesman, Mr Tomasz Tywonek, said: "It is clear how far Father Jankowski strays in his words from declarations of the Catholic Church's bishops."
