The vice-chairman of the Welsh Rugby Union (WRU) has called on coach Graham Henry to resign following Sunday’s 54-10 thrashing by Ireland at Lansdowne Road.
Les Williams told the Daily MailHenry had lost the plot and the best thing he could do for himself and the team was to call it a day on his £250,000 sterling a year contract - making him the best-paid rugby coach in the world - of which 20 months remain.
"We're going from one disaster to another. The honourable thing for him to do is to tender his resignation," Williams said. "Regrettably I think Graham has lost the plot completely," Williams said.
"I also think he made the biggest mistake of his life in taking the coaching job with the Lions and that he hasn't recovered from it. I honestly think he has taken us as far as he can. Welsh rugby is in a horrible state and something has to be done".
Williams, who is the first member of the WRU to go public with calls for Henry to go, said it was nothing personal but he believed the fans had lost faith in the New Zealander.
"All we get are excuses all the time about the structure of the game," he said.
Despite the mounting pressure on Henry, however, it is likely he will still be in charge when Wales host France on February 16th.
