Anthony Gardner should return to his central-defensive role after missing the defeat at home to Bolton with a sore hamstring, Mauricio Taricco is most likely to make way. Midfielder Stephane Dalmat is back in contention after returning to France last week on family business. Welsh international Simon Davies (hip) is still not match fit, while Christian Ziege (knee), Frederic Kanoute (ankle) and Jamie Redknapp (knee) are all still out.

Kieron Dyer (hamstring) missed the UEFA Cup clash with FC Basle in midweek while Jermaine Jenas (back), Andy O'Brien (hip), Alan Shearer (ankle) and Laurent Robert (hamstring) returned from Switzerland with knocks, but are expected to be fit. Lee Bowyer is available again after suspension.
