A young hair salon employee who was scalded by coffee received an award for Pounds 17,500 damages at the Dublin Circuit Civil Court yesterday.

Ms Paula Newman, of Donaghmede Drive, Dublin, sued the Peter Mark firm of Grafton Street over burns she received on June 1st, 1993.

Mr Dermot Flanagan BL told the court that Ms Newman, then aged 15, was fetching a cup of coffee for a customer when she pulled the pot off a stand, which was slanted.
