VATICAN CITY - Pope John Paul II's office said yesterday that he would not be hospitalised, despite reports by the press that he would have to undergo tests later this month.

The Vatican spokesman, Dr Joaquin Navarro Valls, denied a report published yesterday in the daily newspaper, Il Messagero, which said the Pope would spend a short time in hospital for tests.
