Tbilisi - Pope John Paul began a visit to Georgia yesterday, calling for reconciliation between the Roman Catholic and Orthodox churches after centuries of mistrust and animosity.

Orthodox Christians' presence at a Catholic Mass was "inadmissible", the Patriarchate said in a statement.
