Sinn Féin see Adams as a ‘god’, claims Calleary

Sinn Féin think they have a "god" at the helm of the party, Fianna Fail TD Dara Calleary has claimed.

Mr Calleary was speaking at the Fianna Fáil ardfheis in the RDS where the party voted to change the way it elects its leader.

He said Labour pay lip service to their members and Sinn Fein do not do leadership elections because they believe they have a "god in Gerry Adams".

A number of delegates said they opposed the measure which would give every member of the party a say in electing the leader.

Currently only TDs have their say but now the motion has passed, all 20,000 will have their say

Party leader Micheál Martin said this was a two-year process and was aimed at giving members a stronger say in direction of the party.

He said he has “no axe to grind” in relation to the issue, adding that he believed it would connect members to the leadership of the party.
