A Dail committee is expected to recommend today the suspension of the Kerry North TD, Mr Denis Foley, (pictured above) for a number of days for breaching the Ethics in Public Office Act.
Mr Foley admitted to the committee last week that he breached section 7 of the Act by failing to make a declaration when voting or speaking on a matter in the Oireachtas in which he had a material interest. In September 1997 Mr Foley voted on a Dail motion relating to the Moriarty tribunal. At that time he had an Ansbacher account.
The committee, chaired by the Fianna Fail TD, Mr Tony Killeen, met yesterday to finalise a draft report on its inquiry. It is expected to complete its report today. Committee sources said last night it would recommend the suspension of Mr Foley from the Dail but had not yet decided for how many days. A TD found to have breached the Ethics in Public Office Act could be suspended for up to 30 sitting days of the Dail.
