McDonald insists Sinn Féin will be in government eventually

Deputy leader says: ‘It is a matter of time. Will it be after the next election? I can’t say’

Sinn Féin deputy leader Mary Lou McDonald has insisted her party will be in government eventually.

Ms McDonald said it was only a matter of time before the party will be in a position to govern.

She said: “Make no mistake we want to be in government. It is a matter of time. Will it be after the next election? I can’t say.”

Taoiseach Enda Kenny claimed in an interview on Today FM Sinn Féin do not want to be in Government.

Ms McDonald said it was her preference that Sinn Féin would be in a position to govern after this next election.

She was speaking as Sinn Féin launched a new poster urging people to support the march against water charges this weekend.

Ms McDonald said only a Sinn Féin government could commit to abolishing the charges.
