The Polish army has denied media reports its troops abused Iraqi prisoners in their occupation zone in southern Iraq.

Private Polish Radio Zet quoted reports in US media as saying two detainees told US authorities investigating the abuse of Iraqi prisoners in the Abu Ghraib prison that they were beaten by Polish soldiers.

A Polish army spokesman said:  "A few weeks ago the chief military prosecutor carried out an inspection of our detention centre and confirmed that all procedures were being followed."
