A special marble plaque due to be unveiled today in memory of missing Wexford woman Fiona Sinnott has been stolen.

The black stone work had been mounted near the spot where she was last seen in Broadway, Wexford over a decade ago.

Her family went to the spot today to officially unveil the memorial at the cemetery on Our Ladies Island but discovered it had been ripped off its mounting.

Gardaí said they are investigating the theft of the plaque.

Fiona Sinnott, from Bridgetown, was last seen leaving a pub in Broadway on the night of Monday, February 9th, 1998. She was 19.

There have been no verified sightings of Ms Sinnott since she left the pub with her boyfriend.

Her disappearance is one of at least ten missing persons or murder cases involving women in the Leinster area since the early 1980s.

A number of arrests have been made in the missing persons investigation but no-one has been charged in connection with her disappearance.
