London - The tug-of-war over Gen Augusto Pinochet returns to Britain's courts today when lawyers for Belgium and six human rights groups try to prevent the former Chilean dictator from escaping trial on torture charges.
British Home Secretary Jack Straw, drawing on tests carried out on Gen Pinochet by British doctors, has said he is inclined to allow him to return home on the grounds he is medically unfit to stand trial.
Belgium and the rights groups are appealing a British judge's rejection of their application for a judicial review of Mr Straw's decision to keep the test results secret.
