London - A British teenager lost two litres of blood after having her tongue pierced.

Ms Gemma Danielson (18), a club dancer, was given a blood transfusion in hospital near Newcastle in north-east England but doctors refused to remove the bar, fearing the bleeding would worsen, the Daily Telegraph reported yesterday. "At casualty they said they had never seen anything like it. I filled up seven tubs with blood," the newspaper quoted her as saying. "I thought I was dying. I kept drifting in and out of consciousness." Ms Lorna Larson, the piercer who accidentally hit a vein in Mr Danielson's tongue, said she was "mortified".
