LADY Sarah Chatto, daughter of Princess Margaret and Lord Snowdon, has given birth to a son. The birth was announced just over a fortnight after Lady Sarah (31) and her husband Daniel celebrated their second wedding anniversary.

Princess Diana's media spokeswoman Jane Atkinson quit because her royal client bombarded her with telephone calls that threatened her marriage, according to the News of the World.

Ms Atkinson resigned last week after only six months on the job. "The calls would start at 6.30 a.m. and would never stop," a friend of Mr Atkinson's was quoted as saying.

The final straw was when the Duchess of York, the former Sarah Ferguson, phoned to instruct Ms Atkinson on how to handle a dispute over photographs that had been taken of Diana and Sarah in France.

According to the Sunday Times, members of the royal household believe he has already told Queen Elizabeth that he intends to leave. Prince Charles's press secretary, Allan Percival, moved to Downing Street last week as John Major's deputy press secretary.

Sir Anthony Hopkins is to make his debut as director and composer. Sir Hopkins (58) Hannibal Lecter of Silence of the Lambs has written an accomplished soundtrack for August, an adaptation of Chekhov's Uncle Vanya receiving a royal premiere at Theatre Clwyd in Mold in north Wales, with Prince Charles present.
