Queen Elizabeth met the cast of Harrogate Theatre's production of Aladdin and saw a snippet of the show during a visit to the Yorkshire town.

The queen, wearing a jade green coat and hat, met the cast after hearing the Genie of the Lamp, Richard Ashton, sing You Ain't Never Had A Friend Like Me.

Princess Alexia, the eldest daughter of former Greek King Constantine, has become engaged to Carlos Morales Quintana of Spain, the exiled royal family announced yesterday. The princess (33) and Quintana (28) will be married in July in the Greek St. Sophia Cathedral in London, the family said in a statement.

Queen Anne-Marie, Alexia's mother and wife of King Constantine, is the younger sister of Queen Margrethe of Denmark.

Former Beatle Paul McCartney yesterday announced that he is to stage a variety show on the Internet.

"It's the first time that I've done anything quite like this. I'm excited but I'm also getting a bit nervous about hosting my own show for an hour," he said in a statement.

Award-winning British rock band Radiohead were on stage yesterday for the first time in eight months when they joined a line-up of stars at a concert to mark the long struggle for human rights.

The group is appearing at Paris's Bercy Stadium for the Amnesty International concert. It also features Alanis Morissette and Bruce Springsteen.

The event marks the 50th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

A family photo album and correspondence of actress Audrey Hepburn were yesterday sold for more than £70,000, ten times the expected price.

Both lots were sold to the same anonymous foreign buyer at the Pop, Film and Entertainment auction at Christie's in London.
