TINY TIM, the eccentric ukelele strumming performer best known for his quivering 1968 rendition of Tiptoe Thru The Tulips With Me, has died in Minneapolis, aged 66.

The singer, whose real name was Herbert Khaury, had suffered a heart attack during a stage performance in Massachusetts in September.

Tiny Tim parlayed his trembling falsetto voice and unique appearance, which included long, stringy hair and baggy clothes, into a cult following in the late 1960s and early 1970s.

His televised wedding to Vicki Budinger in 1969 was among the most watched programmes in Johnny Carson's The Tonight Show, although the marriage was short lived.

Czech President Vaclav Havel, who faces exploratory lung surgery, assured listeners in his weekly radio address yesterday he was in "no serious danger".

President Havel (60) was admitted to hospital last Monday after his office said he was suffering from pneumonia.

Accountant Andrew Fisher was unsure if the word "buvette" existed when he tentatively placed the seven tiles on a Scrabble board.

But the 74 point word - meaning refreshment bar - was found in Chambers' dictionary and ultimately made the 31 year old from Glastonbury Britain's 25th national Scrabble champion at the Forte Crest Hotel in Regent's Park, London.

Andrew, a runner up in the 1991 championship, also stormed to victory with "oche", an area in a darts game; "bidon", a vessel containing water; "zig", a sharp change in direction; and "lown", a variant of "loon", or mad person.

His opponent, Terry Kirk (34) from Finchley, lost the final despite producing the highest scoring word, the 84 point "battered".
