Pensions Ombudsman reappointed

Paul Kenny has been reappointed as Pensions Ombudsman, Minister for Social and Family Affairs Mary Hanafin has announced.

Paul Kenny has been reappointed as Pensions Ombudsman, Minister for Social and Family Affairs Mary Hanafin has announced.

Mr Kenny was first appointed to the role in 2003.

The role of the Pensions Ombudsman is to investigate complaints of financial loss due to maladministration and disputes of fact or law in relation to occupational pension schemes and Personal Retirement Savings Accounts (PRSAs).

The Pensions Ombudsman is legally independent under the Pensions Act, 1990.

Ms Hanafin said that since 2003, the Office of the Pensions Ombudsman had received over 2,500 complaints.

Last year alone it received 758 complaints – an increase of over 47 per cent on the previous year.

Mr Kenny is a former chairman of the Retirement Planning Council of Ireland. He worked for over 30 years with Irish Pensions Trust/Mercer Human Resources Consulting.
