Two pedestrians have died in separate incidents in Cork and Mayo over the past 24 hours.
Gardaí in Cork have launched an investigation after a pedestrian was killed when he was hit by a truck on the outskirts of the city at lunch hour.
The incident happened on the Ballyhooley Road near Ballyvolane on Cork's northside when the man in his 30s was struck by a truck and fatally injured just after 1pm.
It's understood that the man was pronounced dead at the scene and the road has been closed off pending an examination by garda forensic crash investigators
Gardai at Mayfield have appealed to anyone who may have witnessed the accident or can assist them to contact them on 021-4558510.
Elsewhere, a 90 year-old man died after he was struck at about 9.30pm yesterday on the N5 Westport to Castlebar road at Dooleague. He died at the scene.
Gardaí at Castlebar are investigating.
