A PEDESTRIAN has been struck and killed in Co Tipperary, while a farmer has died in a farming incident in Co Limerick.

The pedestrian died after being struck by the trailer of an articulated lorry at about 9am yesterday.

The man, in his 20s, was walking on Rossa Street in Thurles when the incident occurred as the lorry was negotiating the junction at Cuchulainn corner.

The man was taken to South Tipperary General Hospital in Clonmel, where he died of his injuries.

Traffic diversions remained in place throughout yesterday as a Garda forensic team investigated the incident.

A 62-year-old man was killed in a farming incident in Co Limerick yesterday morning.

The father of four died in an incident involving a tractor which occurred on his farm in Kilfinane at around 10am.

The alarm was raised by a family member who found the man, and gardaí from Bruff were alerted. The Health and Safety Authority has been called in to investigate what has been described as a "tragic accident".

The dead man's name is not expected to be released until later today.

Family members were said to be "deeply distraught" following the death, which has also strongly affected the close-knit community of Martinstown in Co Limerick.
