Peace march in Limerick

Hundreds of people joined the mayor of Limerick in his "march for peace" through the city yesterday. People walked from St Mary's Church of Ireland Cathedral to St John's Cathedral on the other side of the city.

The mayor, Councillor Kieran O'Hanlon, called on the IRA to renew its ceasefire. The march was a reminder of the unsettled position that continued to block movement towards a peaceful solution in Northern Ireland, he said.

The two bishops of Limerick, Dr Donal Murray and Dr Edward Darling, led the prayer service at St John's Cathedral while the city's church bells rang out.
