Paris - Cattle dealers created traffic chaos yesterday when they blocked roads around Paris in a protest over the French government's handling of the BSE crisis that has hit beef sales across Europe.

Dozens of protesters used lorries and vans to block major roads leading into the capital. Radio station France Info reported a traffic jam of some 150 km on one motorway as a result.

France last week began testing all cattle older than 30 months for the illness in a bid to reassure consumers about the safety of French beef.
