Pakistan hasordered itstroops on the military control line in Kashmir to observe a ceasefire from next week as a gesture of goodwill to rival India.

Prime Minister Zafarullah Khan Jamali said in a televised speech that he hoped India would respond positively to make the offer effective.

"We have ordered our troops deployed along the Line of Control to demonstrate complete ceasefire from the day of Eid."

Eid al-Fitr, marking the end of the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan, is expected on Wednesday.
