Packard workers and management are to try to reach agreement on redundancy terms in the Labour Court today, Padraig Yeates, Industry and Employment Correspondent reports. On June 7th, the first batch of redundancies among the remaining 400 workers are due to begin at the Tallaght plant in Co Dublin.
The company has offered five weeks' pay for each year of service the terms given to Packard workers during previous redundancies. The unions are looking for more and have been conducting a protest campaign aimed at General Motors Ireland Ltd, which owns Packard and sells Opel cars. The unions have also been seeking a new employment project for the Tallaght site.
