Workers at Bord Gais are being offered £2,750 each, in two phases, in return for productivity measures to prepare for competition. The offer was made at the Labour Relations Commission last night as part of an attempt to avert a strike.
The 720-strong workforce is expected to be balloted on the issue shortly. However, no progress has been made on the more contentious issue of an Employee Share Option scheme.
The company has not concluded its valuation of assets and the Department of Finance has yet to give its approval.
