Joe O'Reilly is seeking leave to appeal against his conviction for the murder of his wife Rachel at their home in Dublin in 2004.

O'Reilly (35), of Lambay View, Baldarragh, the Naul, Co Dublin, was found guilty of murdering his wife and mother of two, Rachel O'Reilly (30), at the family home on October 4th, 2004.

Mr Justice Barry White sentenced O'Reilly to a life sentence at the Central Criminal Court in Dublin on July 21st this year.

A spokesman for the Courts Service said papers were lodged with the office of the Court of Criminal Appeal this afternoon.

It is not clear when the appeal will be heard as there is a six to eight month waiting list for cases to come before the court.
