Mr O'Reilly, who wore a dark green fleece top and dark combat-style trousers, was in the dock for less than a minute.

His wife's blooded body was found on the floor of her bedroom on October 2nd, 2004 by her mother after she failed to turn up to collect the younger of her two children at a creche.

A postmortem examination showed she had died from head wounds inflicted by a blunt instrument.
