The British government is set to announce plans for a £400 million (€585 million) upgrade to Northern Ireland's roads network.
Up to £1 billion (€1.46 billion) has already been set aside for major improvements between now and 2015, but this will be additional money for new schemes.
A big percentage of it is expected to be allocated west of the River Bann where the standard of roads is among the worst in the country. Co Fermanagh and greater Derry are among the regions likely to benefit.
The £1 billion programme was announced last December.
