THE CHIEF executive of the Roscommon Herald newspaper has initiated High Court proceedings aimed at restraining his dismissal.

Lawyers for Brian Nerney secured permission from the High Court yesterday to serve injunction proceedings against Thomas Crosbie Holdings Ltd at short notice.

Ms Justice Mary Laffoy made the application returnable to today. The application for short service of the proceedings was made ex-parte (one side only represented). In his action, Mr Nerney, Carrick Road, Boyle, Co Roscommon, is seeking orders including one restraining TCH Ltd from terminating his contract.

Patrick O’Reilly, for Mr Nerney, said his client was informed by TCH Ltd on July 17th last that his position was being made redundant. Mr O’Reilly said this was in breach of Mr Nerney’s contract.
