A libel action brought by a former prominent member of Families Against Intimidation and Terror (FAIT) against Post Publications Ltd, trading as the Sunday Business Post, has been settled, the High Court was told today.
Mr Paul O'Higgins SC, for Mr Henry Robinson, of Downpatrick, said part of the terms of settlement was that Ms Caroline Costello, for the newspaper, would read an apology to court.
Ms Costello read a statement which said: "In our edition of September 29th, 2002, we published an article about Henry Robinson, formerly a prominent member of FAIT.
We suggested that FAIT and/or Mr Robinson were funded by British Intelligence in their activities and that Mr Robinson may have been opposed to the peace process in Northern Ireland.
"Each of these suggestions was untrue. Mr Robinson has been dedicated to the cause of peace in Northern Ireland for many years. We wish to apologise to Mr Robinson and his family for the publication of these suggestions and we acknowledge that we have paid an agreed sum of money to the Omagh Self Help Group at his request and discharged his legal costs."
