New initiative to tackle rising bullying in schools

Incidents of bullying in schools across the country increased by 12 per cent last year, according to the latest statistics.To try and tackle the rising problem, a new initiative was launched yesterday by members of the Co Limerick Comhairle na nÓg (Youth Council).

Supported by the Limerick Youth Service and the community and enterprise section of Limerick County Council, the inaugural Limerick Anti-Bullying Week will take place on May 18th-25th, with a series of anti-bullying messages being relayed to secondary school students.

Posters creating awareness of bullying will be put on display in secondary schools, while students also will be encouraged to wear wristbands bearing anti-bullying messages. An Anti-Bullying Awareness Night will also be held in Limerick on June 28th.
