New editor named for Belfast's 'News Letter' daily paper

Rankin Armstrong has been appointed the new editor of the News Letter daily newspaper in the North.

Rankin Armstrong has been appointed the new editor of the News Letter daily newspaper in the North.

A journalist on the unionist-supporting newspaper for the past 14 years, he joined as assistant editor, was promoted to deputy editor over five years ago and since Darwin Templeton stood down as editor to move to UTV earlier this year he has been acting editor.

Mr Armstrong has been a journalist for 40 years. His career includes 17 years as a sub-editor with the Belfast Telegraph and three years as chief sub-editor with the Irish News. From Armagh city, Mr Armstrong was also a reporter with the Armagh Guardian and the Portadown News/Craigavon Times.
