Sofia - The reformist Bulgarian President, Mr Petar Stoyanov, and the head of the former communist Socialist Party, Mr Georgui Parvanov, were last night running neck and neck in the first round of presidential elections, exit polls indicated. Mr Stoyanov failed to reach the 50 per cent threshold needed for an outright victory, it was earlier reported. There was a 50 per cent turnout.
