The National Concert Hall has announced the appointment of Simon Taylor as its first chief executive.

He replaces Judith Woodworth, who held the post of director from 1993 until her retirement at the end of last year.

Mr Taylor (55) takes up his appointment on September 6th, and will head up the only State-funded, professionally staffed, dedicated music venue in the State at a time of considerable upheaval.

Government plans to add a 2,000-seat hall and a smaller recital hall at the Earlsfort Terrace site in Dublin were dropped last year.
