Accordion player Sharon Shannon and singer songwriter Liam Ó Maonlaí are among the musicians who have pledged only to buy intruments made from legal and sustainable wood.
A call for musicians to support the pledge to keep instruments free from illegally and unsustainably harvested wood was yesterday made by Irish environmental charity Just Forests
“The trade in illegally logged timber is having a devastating effect on the world’s biological diversity,” Just Forests founder Tom Roche said in a statement.
Also backing the campaign are The Chieftains, Paul Brady, pianist John O’Conor, classical guitarist Redmond O’Toole and singer-songwriters Brendan Keeley, Deirdre Cartwright, Daithí Rua and John Spillane.
