In a report published on July 20th concerning members of the Commission to Inquire into Child Abuse we suggested that four Commissioners remained in situ as Commissioners and continued to be “on the payroll” “in unexplained circumstances”. Mrs Marian Shanley, one of authors of the report, has notified us that she ceased to be in receipt of remuneration as a Commissioner as of June 30th following which she took some accrued leave. She remains nominally as a Commissioner until the Commission is formally dissolved by the Minister but is not continuing to receive remuneration for this.
It was not intended to suggest that Mrs Shanley, whose personal integrity is acknowledged by The Irish Times, had improperly benefited by remaining in office.
