The general secretary of the Irish Congress of Trade Unions, Mr Peter Cassells, has written to the Irish Vocational Education Association asking it to re enter talks with the Teachers' Union of Ireland, writes Padraig Yeates.
The TUI plans strike action in four counties on December 5th because the IVEA has withdrawn from talks on appointment and promotions procedures.
This strike will affect VEC schools in Sligo, Kilkenny, Mayo and Kerry. A one day strike in counties Longford, Cavan, Limerick and Offaly will follow if talks do not resume. The TUI general secretary, Mr Jim Dorney, welcomed Mr Cassells's intervention yesterday.
