A MOTORCYCLIST competing in a road race has died after a crash in North county Dublin, the third such death since July.

A MOTORCYCLIST competing in a road race has died after a crash in North county Dublin, the third such death since July.

The man was named as Victor Gilmore (43) from Co Antrim, who came off his motorcycle while racing on the three-mile long Killalane circuit near Skerries.

A race marshal was also injured in the incident which took place at about 1.20pm. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

The motorcyclist was taken to Beaumont Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

On July 18th a Co Armagh man died during a pratice session for a road race in Kells, Co Meath.

In a separate crash in Co Clare five people including a child were injured when two cars collided on the M18 bypass at Manusmore about 6km from Ennis. The collision occurred at about 12.40pm.

A woman had to be cut from the car she was driving. Two women and a man and a child from the second car, were also injured in the incident.
