THE MOTHER of a man injured in a shooting in Limerick two years ago has described how she saw the man charged in connection with the incident shoot her son.

Mary Lynch was giving evidence in the trial of Anthony Kelly, O’Malley Park, Southill, Limerick, who denies having a Glock semi-automatic pistol in his possession with intent to endanger life at O’Malley Park, Limerick, on October 28th, 2009.

It is the prosecution’s case that Mr Kelly (50) shot Michael Lynch, who was 27 at the time, after a row outside his home in O’Malley Park.

Outlining the case for the jury at Limerick Circuit Court yesterday, John O’Sullivan, prosecuting, said it would be the prosecutions case that Mr Lynch was shot in the back.

The jury was shown a number of items including the Glock semi-automatic pistol allegedly used in the incident.

The court heard there was no forensic evidence linking Mr Kelly to the gun.

In her evidence Ms Lynch said Mr Kelly pulled a gun from behind his back and fired four times.

She said her son was running away when he was shot. The trial continues today.
