London - A woman who made medical history by giving birth to triplets - one of whom developed outside the womb - was last night discharged from hospital. Doctors said Ms Jane Ingram has almost fully recovered from the painful and unique ordeal of carrying two babies in her uterus - and one outside it. The case has amazed the medical world because most ectopic pregnancies - when the embryo develops outside the uterus - end in the death of the baby and can prove fatal to the mother.
The chances of having two babies in the uterus and one outside were one in one hundred million. But Ms Ingram (32) and babies Olivia, Mary and Ronan survived and all are doing well. The babies were born in King's College Hospital, London, on September 3rd, 11 weeks premature. Doctors paid tribute to Ms Ingram's bravery and "positive attitude", which played a crucial part in the success of the pregnancy.
