Travelling times between Dublin and Sligo could be cut by up to five minutes following the opening yesterday of a new dual-carriageway between the town and Collooney.
The official opening of the £32 million, 8.5km stretch was performed by the Minister for the Environment, Mr Dempsey, who stressed the importance of the road for the transport infrastructure of the region.
The new route by-passes the villages of Collooney and Ballisodare.
